Fast becoming one of Australia’s most travelled martial arts ambassadors, Principal Instructor of the ‘Melbourne Chinese Martial Arts Club’ and respected authority on the ‘Wong Shun Leung Ving Tsun (Wing Chun) Method’, Sifu David Peterson has just returned from his second sojourn for the year, this time to the cities of Osaka, Japan and Los Angeles, USA.
At the request of student, now instructor at the Osaka-based ‘Powerarts Academy’, Sifu Blair Johnston, and at the invitation of long-time friend and LA-based WSL Wing Chun devotee, Sifu Ernie Barrios, Peterson spent approximately a week at each location conducting detailed “hands-on” seminars and private training sessions in the finer points of the WSL Method for a truly international audience that consisted of practitioners from the UK, Japan, Canada, Germany, Mexico, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Vietnam and across the USA. This trip was hot on the heels of his tenth trip to the UK in April, and the invitations just keep on coming with return trips to the UK, Bulgaria and Denmark all to take place within a few months from now. With two DVDs making an impact on the international market and his book, ‘Look Beyond the Pointing Finger: the Combat Philosophy of Wong Shun Leung’ about to be re-published shortly, he is drawing very positive attention to the Australian martial arts scene. As an indication of just how much of an impact his work is having, Peterson was recently invited to act as technical advisor for an episode of the New York-based ‘Discovery Channel programme, ‘Fight Quest’ which was shot in Hong Kong and focussed on the Wing Chun system. And if all that wasn’t enough, as an added milestone for the year, in August he and his students will be marking the 25th Anniversary of his school, and his 35th year as a follower of the martial arts tradition.Share
